Introduction

The Actors Conservatory puts you in the picture!

Do you want to become a working professional actor? Then get prepared for your profession with a recognised entry level qualification: The Advanced Diploma in Screen & Stage Acting.

O.K., you feel you have the potential to become a professional actor. Your instinct is probably right. But if you want to have a shot at the big jobs you will eventually need the kind of agent who gets the right kind of calls. You'll need one who can put you up for big auditions, not just send you off after little stuff time after time. But the biggest agents in Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne don't take just anyone and anyone who doesn't have a recognised entry level qualification hardly stands a chance.

Why? Because so many people door-knock them every day they have to make their filtering process strict and simple. Usually they do this by saying, "Look, if you don't have an advanced diploma or degree go away for now and come back when you get one."

It just makes sense. Doing little short workshops for a few weeks or months or even only a year just doesn't compare with 4 semesters of properly planned and connected advanced diploma study. Lots of people want to believe a short cut will still get them there. Lots of people want to believe just six months or only a year of training will be enough to impress the agents. But lots of those same people finish up realising the short cut was actually a disappointing dead end. The standard entry level qualification for acting in Australia is an advanced diploma, it's offered at NIDA, it's offered here at The Actors Conservatory. The industry risks big money on newcomers, so regardless how good an audition may look in the first place, if you're a newcomer, they still want proof on paper that you have a history of being well trained and dedicated. For what they're going to risk, they want, deserve and will demand at least that much proof.

Acting's not as difficult to learn as some skills but the profession offers much bigger rewards than most. Film and TV opportunities for Australian men and women are becoming massive and big jobs for new actors of all ages are popping up all year round. That's why our courses are open every quarter, not just once a year. Our successful graduates have proven this training can open pathways to real commercial results in the feature film, television, theatre and comedy industries. Remember, you really don't need any experience at all to gain entry and get started, so like many people, you're probably ready right now.
